When students ask me for Common App essay tips, the number one question I get…
Why Did They CLOSE the Common App!?
The Common App is down. Oh no! What does that mean?
Well, the Common Application is accepted by over 1,000 colleges, and with over 3,000 colleges in America, that makes up about one-third of our schools, though many of them are the best-known schools. So typically, when you apply to college, many or most, and in some cases all, of the schools on your list will accept the Common App.
As of 5 PM on July 27th, CommonApp.org is down for scheduled maintenance. This happens every year so that colleges can remove all the old stuff and put up new stuff, including potentially new essay questions.
This year, the Common App will likely take down the race questions, since the Supreme Court ruled that colleges can no longer consider that information in a holistic read.
The important thing for you to know is that any information you filled out in the Common App section should still be there when it opens on August 1st. But any information you filled out in the individual college parts will likely be deleted, and you’ll have to start that part all over again.
I’ll have more information when the Common App opens after August 1st. In the meantime, if you have questions, call us at 732-556-8220. We are here to help.
