Registering for the SAT & ACT with Testing Accommodations
Today, we are discussing registering for the SAT and ACT with testing accommodations. If your student has an IEP, 504 plan, or other disabilities they may be eligible for testing accommodations. This includes extra time, extra breaks, or whatever they need to succeed.
The SAT and ACT are quite different. You need to get your accommodations in place first so reach out to your guidance counselor, your case worker, or someone on the child’s study team to send in paperwork on your behalf for testing. This process takes about six to eight weeks and once you’re approved you will be able to sign up for the SAT.
For the ACT, you can register for the test first. One of the questions in that process is, “Should you get accommodations?” The answer is: Yes. When that happens the assigned person will get an email asking for your documents. This takes about two weeks to process and approve.
There is a chance you might get declined, especially if you’re not using this accommodation in school day-to-day. There is an option for an appeal and you can send in documentation from your doctor, mostly ending in a successful outcome.
