Why You Don’t Need Perfect Scores

Today I want to tell you why you do not need perfect SAT scores or ACT scores to get into your top-choice college.

The fact is that top colleges in America turn away students with perfect scores all the time. You can find out on most colleges’ websites what’s called their interquartile range, the middle half of applicants and of admitted students, and as long as you’re in that bracket, you’ve got scores that qualify you for those schools.

And that’s what scores are: scores qualify you, grades qualify you, but then beyond that, you also need things like your intellectual curiosity; you need demonstrated interest; you need extracurricular activities, all explained well in your application and through your essays.

So do not knock yourselves out. Do not kill yourself to get perfect scores. Prep to get great scores and then move on with your life. Because if you focus too much on doing this one thing, you’re never going to get to the other important pieces of the puzzle.
