Why EVERY Student Should Apply for Financial Aid

Today I want to tell you why parents of every incoming college student should apply for financial aid by filling out the FAFSA, which is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at FAFSA.gov

In the 2019–2020 school year, the Department of Education estimates that over a million eligible students left money on the table by just not filling out the FAFSA. Every student attending college next school year should get on that because otherwise you could be leaving money on the table. It’s for grants, loans, work study, and some major-specific scholarships.

It also lets you transfer your information over to the state in certain states, including New Jersey, so you can then be eligible for things like need-based aid and loans from your state.

But most importantly, some colleges won’t unlock a student’s merit-based scholarships that they’ve earned unless and until they’ve filled out the FAFSA. So don’t put it off, because some of that money is first come, first served.

It’s open as of October 1st, so get going, and if you have more questions about why you should apply for financial aid, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 732-556-8220. Solution Prep is here to help.
