When Are College Applications REALLY Due?

Today I want to talk to seniors working their way through the mountainous process of applying to college. You may be working on things like your essays and your applications, but you want to keep in mind that you’re not the only person contributing to your college applications. That is why you should keep in mind when college applications are due when applying.

Who else is? Your guidance counselor! That’s who’s going to be sending things like your transcript and your recommendation letters, and you can’t just knock on guidance’s door the day before an application is due and say “Hey, drop everything you’re doing and focus on my stuff,” because they have other students to deal with and other responsibilities at school apart from this one task.

If you’re applying to colleges by utilizing Early Action and Early Decision deadlines, which are often November 1 or 15—some as early as October 15—you want to find out from guidance now how far before then they need you to get your part done so they have enough time to get their parts done. It could be two weeks, it could be four weeks. But find out, make that your deadline to get your parts done, and get cracking.
