What to do After Taking the SAT & ACT

Hey guys! It’s Eric at Solution Prep. We talk a lot about what to do in preparation for your SAT or ACT, and especially during the test. Today, we’re discussing what to do directly after you take the SAT or the ACT. You don’t want to go straight to work, or to practice, or the big game, or the big group project. After the test, you want to do two things, and two things only.

One — sandwich. You will never love a sandwich in your life as much as you will directly after the SAT or the ACT. And two — nap. You need an hour from the time you walk in the door where no one’s allowed to bother you, no one’s allowed to pepper you with questions like how did it go? Do you think you improved? That stuff can wait till after your nap.

We’re going to schedule these two things for three important reasons.

One, physiologically you’re going to need them; you’re going to be hungry, and you’re going to be tired. Plan for it.

Second of all, when we are going through something difficult we bargain with ourselves — we make a little deal — we tell ourselves a little further and there will be a reward. When you’re on that last section, feeling like you just can’t go any further, you can. You’re so close — sandwich and a nap — you can make it.

Third of all, when you’re focused on where you’re supposed to go next, you’re not focused on what you’re supposed to be doing right now, and that’s what you need to be focused on.

So make that plan.
