SAT/ACT Testing Timeline

Today, I want to tell you about the testing timeline.

Junior year is testing year. The SAT and ACT are designed for juniors, and if you can get both of these tests done by the end of junior year, you can work on your college applications and essays going into senior year, already knowing your scores, and without having to do test prep at the same time.

There are seven SATs and seven ACTs every school year, which gives you plenty of opportunities to take both tests two or three times and utilize the superscore, where colleges put together your best of each subject.

The biggest mistake students make is waiting until the October PSAT, then waiting for scores to come in December, because the next SAT isn’t until March, and by then, you’ve already missed seven of the fourteen available test dates for the year.

The best plan is to start prepping in the summer going into the August SAT and September ACT, or in the fall, going into the October SAT and October ACT. Then, you have the rest of the year to plan it out and get it done.
