How to Add More Activities to College Applications

Today we’re talking about an extra way to talk about activities in your college applications. In the Common App there’s a section devoted to activities where you can list up to 10 of your extracurricular activities that you’ve already done. But then, within colleges’ individual piece of the Common App there are sections, and sometimes there’s an activity section.

This is a chance for you to let them know how you’d like to continue some of the activities you’ve already done or what activities they offer that you’re interested to explore as a student there. And this way they understand that you’re not just going to be a student in a classroom there, but you’re going to be a whole person and a full member of their student body once you are on campus.

So when you see these dropdowns that let you list up to three, or five, or more, you want to answer everything that is true for as many options as you can fit. Sometimes they’ll also ask you to write school specific supplements pertaining to your activities, and they might even give you an opportunity here to upload a résumé of your activities where you can discuss things more in depth or beyond just the 10 that you’ve included in the activities portion of the main Common App.

So look out for these opportunities and if you have questions, call us at 732-556-8220. We are here to help.
