4 Numbers to Consider When Looking at Colleges

Today, we are talking about the four numbers to consider when looking at colleges.

The first is acceptance rate. If that number happens to be high it’s not a very selective college, and if that number is very low it’s very competitive. Those numbers may be inaccurate due to certain majors being more competitive than others or public colleges accepting a higher number of in-state students and a lower percentage of out-of-state students.

The second is yield, the percentage of accepted students who decide to enroll. If that number is high that means students are committing, but if the number is low it means it’s more likely a safety school for those students.

The third number is retention, the percent of freshmen who return as sophomores. A high number means students are happy with their choice and plan on returning in good spirits. But a low number means just the opposite.

And finally, four are graduation rates. Some colleges will give you the eight-year graduation rate, which is something we don’t necessarily need. So get your hands on the four-year or maybe the six-year rate to help make your decisions.
