Should You Get a College Coach?

Today’s video is, to be honest, a little self-serving because one question I get asked a lot is: why should we hire a college admissions coach? And that’s my job. That’s what I do. And people ask, well, can’t we just handle this on our own? Absolutely. Some people are equipped to handle this project on their own. Between students and parents and maybe other adults in the student’s life, they can build a list of colleges, narrow it down to the best-fit schools, write phenomenal essays, edit them to perfection, submit applications without a single mistake and without missing a single deadline, field admissions offers as they come, and negotiate awards before committing, all while making a student attractive to colleges and competitive throughout the entire process.

Yes, some people are capable of doing that. And some people can file their own taxes and change the oil on their own cars and mow their own lawns. But for the rest of us, if there’s something we’re not an expert in, we tend to prefer finding someone who is to help guide us through that process. And that’s what a good college admissions coach can do, because that’s someone who spends day in, day out, year-round focused on this and being an expert at this. And they can add to whatever value you bring to the table. Understanding this process, understanding who the college admissions reps are and what language they need to hear all this stuff in to make a student stand out the way they need to see them.

And of course, manage the project from beginning to end without the stress of parents having to do this with their student. Because a college admissions coach is someone with a singular relationship to that student whose only task is helping the student through this project. So they don’t come with the emotions and the arguments and the other baggage of just raising a teenager day-to-day.

And also important to understand is that when students apply to college without help, they are applying against other students who did get help from a college admissions coach; or maybe just someone to help them with their essays along the way. So you shouldn’t feel bashful about getting the same help that other people are out there getting, especially if you want to be competitive against them.

I hope the videos on this channel are super helpful, and I’m putting a lot of work into making them. But if you do need help beyond that, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 732-556-8220. We are here to help.
